Us Patent No. 2113934 Baseball Glove by Jr Denkert (1938) Filed in the twilight of the dead-ball mitt, Denkert's schematic shows a palm laced with reinforcing thongs and a barely-there pocket — an inventor's diagram from the years when fielders still shaped leather to the hand rather than the ball, coaxing a pocket from sweat, oil, and seasons of use.
