Description

The Destruction Island Beacon Engineering Drawings for a Sentinel of the Shipwreck Coast reads like a draftsman's reckoning with the Olympic fog — a squat masonry tower drawn against the basalt of a Washington sea-stack, its first-order Fresnel apparatus and keeper's quarters platted with the patience of men who knew this stretch of Pacific had already swallowed the names carved into its charts.

About the Source

Bella Frye sources lighthouse drawings from American maritime archives — the U.S. Coast Guard, National Archives, and historical societies along the Atlantic, Pacific, and Great Lakes coasts. These are engineering documents, not blueprints. The aged paper tone, the hand-drafted weight of the linework, and the original notations are preserved in the print.

Materials & Finish

Printed to order in our Pacific Northwest studio on premium 380gsm cotton canvas with archival pigment inks. Hand-finished and framed in our signature ornate frame with verdigris corner detail, available in three finishes:

  • Ebony — deep black with carved ornate detailing; dramatic against light walls
  • Verdigris — aged copper-green with antique patina; the signature Bella Frye look
  • Bourbon — warm walnut tone with ornate relief; rich and historically grounded

Stretched canvas (frameless gallery wrap) is available for those who prefer a frameless presentation.

Where It Belongs

Coastal homes, libraries, studies, captain's rooms, maritime offices, and any space where American maritime history earns wall presence. Pairs naturally with vintage nautical charts, ship drawings, and other documents from the Bella Frye Maritime & Light Stations collection.

From the Maritime Archive

This print is drawn from an original archival lighthouse drawing — a genuine engineering document of the United States Lighthouse Service, preserved and reproduced in meticulous detail on museum-quality canvas.

Framing & Finish

Each piece is printed in-house on premium canvas and available in three finishes:

  • Ebony — deep black frame with ornate carved detailing; stark and coastal against light walls
  • Verdigris — aged copper-green finish with antique patina; the signature Bella Frye look
  • Bourbon — warm walnut tone with ornate relief; warm as lamplight against a night shore

All framed pieces include a gallery-wrapped canvas with hand-applied ornate corner details. Stretched canvas is available for those who prefer a frameless, gallery-style presentation.

Sizing

Available in multiple sizes to suit your wall. All pieces are printed to order in our Pacific Northwest studio.

Why This Piece

These drawings were never meant to be admired — they were working documents. Precise elevations and cross-sections drafted by government engineers to build structures that would keep ships off the rocks for a hundred years. That functional seriousness is exactly what makes them extraordinary on a wall. This is American infrastructure as art.
